Be Proud of Mole Valley
Report | Improve | Respect
Mole Valley is a beautiful place to live and work…
It also attracts many visitors too, with an abundance of green open spaces, local landmarks and points of interest to enjoy. We work alongside a number of other organisations and public bodies to help keep the district a clean, tidy and safe environment.
‘Be Proud of Mole Valley’ highlights the many ways in which residents of all ages, businesses, local organisations and visitors to the district can take action to report issues, or indeed take advantage of the grant and funding opportunities available to fund improvements, local projects and initiatives.
It is quick and easy to not only report issues online, but also to find out more information and apply for grant funding. If you would prefer to speak to someone, our friendly and knowledgeable Customer Services Team is available on 01306 885001.
Reporting Issues
Dog Fouling – If an owner is reported for not clearing up their dog’s poo in a public area, they could receive up to £1,000 fine. Owners may be unaware that bagged up dog poo can be disposed of in general waste street bins and your black bin at home.
Fly-tipping – This criminal activity is the unauthorised dumping of rubbish and waste on public or private land. If caught, an individual could face a fine or find themselves in court, facing a sentence. Anyone employing a company to remove household rubbish from their home is ultimately responsible for where that waste ends up. If it is found fly-tipped and evidence leads back to the homeowner, they too could face punishment – Ensure it is a trusted company.
Littering from Vehicles – This can either be from a moving vehicle or one that is parked. Anyone found guilty of littering from their vehicle could face a civil penalty. We need some key information from anyone who witnessed the littering, including the location in Mole Valley where the littering took place, so that we may investigate further.
Overflowing Bins – Bins in parks, open spaces and town and village centres that have reached capacity can lead to people leaving litter beside the bin – which is not only unsightly but also can attract flies and rodents – or discard litter irresponsibly elsewhere in the surrounding area.
Playgrounds, Parks and Open Spaces – We want to hear if there are any issues in the parks, playground and open spaces in the district that we are responsible for that need to be brought to our attention. This could be an issue with one or more trees, graffiti or an overflowing bin. Look out for QR codes in our playgrounds that will take you to our online report-it forms.
Wider Anti-Social Behaviour – The nature of the offence will determine which authority or agency will need to be informed. We can investigate and act on reports of an abandoned vehicle or excessive noise for example, and the Police are responsible for issues like property damage and drunken or threatening behaviour.
Improving your Local Community
Community Litter Pick initiatives and Equipment Hire – We loan out litter picking equipment available to residents, community groups and businesses who want to come together and help clear the district of rubbish that has been dropped or deposited from elsewhere. We offer £1 for every bag of litter, up to a maximum of £45. Other organisations also lend equipment too, such as the Dorking Library of Things.
Community Volunteering – Anyone willing to dedicate their free time for a good cause has plenty of options available to them. We update our website with the latest opportunities, and the County Council also has its own dedicated section on its site listing initiatives across Surrey.
Grants and Funding – We offer and administer a number of grants and funding opportunities open to individuals, groups, businesses and the community and voluntary sector. Applications for funding can be made for a wide range of community and improvement works in towns and villages which help and benefit local communities.
Mole Valley Community Lottery – Did you know that we run a weekly lottery? Not only does your £1 ticket enter you into a prize draw with a chance to win the £25,000 jackpot, but 60p of your ticket spend is split out and goes to a local good cause of your choice and our Environment Fund.
Sign up to the Rethink Waste Scheme – The benefits of Surrey’s Rethink Waste scheme are two-fold. Firstly, you will be taught all about the best and most effective way to recycle in a fun way, by completing online games and quizzes. You will then be awarded with virtual points when you implement what you have learned, reducing your home’s carbon footprint as a result. Once you build a points tally, you can donate those points to a participating school of your choice if you wish, to go towards their own specific environment project.
Respecting the District
Countryside Code – We are very fortunate to enjoy picture-perfect views on our doorstep. We ask that you play your part in keeping it that way by taking your litter home with you. Dog owners should be considerate to other people who might not like your pet as much as you do when it is off the lead. Dogs also need to be kept under control when around livestock. A dog walkers code of conduct produced by Surrey County Council is available to read.
Disposing of Dog Waste Responsibly – Dog owners may be unaware that bagged up dog poo can be disposed of in general waste street bins and your black bin at home, not just the specific dog waste bins located in public spaces all over the district. If an owner is reported to have not disposed of their dog’s poo responsibly, they risk a fine of up to £1,000.
What To Do With An Item – It’s not always easy to know which items are recyclable and where to dispose of them, thankfully help is at hand! If you want to check on whether an item is recyclable, check out Surrey Environment Partnership’s handy tool via the button below.
