Dead Animals
- A log is kept of any dogs picked up by our Environmental Health team.
- All domestic animals picked up from the highway are scanned for microchips and the pet owner will be notified if possible.
- Injured animals should be reported to the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
- Common dead wild animals to report include badger, deer and fox. Report them here.
- Animals found dead on private property are the responsibility of the land owner to remove.

- If the animal is injured but alive, please report to the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999 as soon as possible.
- Animals on the public highways which could be causing a risk to road users should be reported here.
- Large animals such as deer found dead in a watercourse should be reported to the Environment Agency. You can use their 24 hour freephone service on 0800 80 70 60.

Dead animals including badgers, deer, foxes, dogs, cats and cattle should be reported as soon as possible. Small animals and rodents such as rabbits, mice, and squirrels do not require reporting. See here for issues concerning rats or other pests.
If you find five or more dead wild birds including seagulls or garden birds, or dead waders, ducks, geese or swans, please do not touch them. Call the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) on 03459 335577.
DEFRA may wish to have the birds examined for signs of specific diseases. They may advise on what action you should take if required.
