Rented accommodation

In addition to general needs housing, several housing associations provide accommodation specifically for older people. This includes live smart (sheltered) housing schemes, which offer independent living with regular wellbeing checks, as well as age-restricted flats and bungalows, typically for people aged 55 and over.

Eligibility criteria vary depending on the scheme and landlord, and applicants must meet the age requirements specified for each property.

To be considered for rented housing for older people, you must apply to join the Housing Register through the Mole Valley HomeChoice website.

People aged 55 and over may qualify to join the housing register for older persons’ accommodation even if they own or jointly own a residential property and/or have savings exceeding £16,000. However, applicants aged 55 and over who own a residential property, have savings exceeding £16,000 and have a gross annual household income exceeding £50,000 will not qualify to join the housing register.

Clarion Housing have studio and one bedroom accommodation for older people in Mole Valley, subject to availability and the landlord’s own eligibility criteria. Some properties may be advertised and allocated through the housing register, while others may be advertised and let directly by Clarion through their own website.
