Repairs to Your Rented Home

If you are experiencing problems with getting your landlord to carry out repairs in your rented home, we can give you help and advice.

As a tenant, you have the right to live in a home that is safe, in a good state of repair and free from hazards. Landlords must make sure that the furniture and furnishings they supply are fire safe.

The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 require private sector landlords to have at least one smoke alarm installed on every storey of their properties, and a carbon monoxide alarm in any room containing a solid fuel burning appliance (e.g. a coal fire, wood burning stove etc). After that, the landlord must make sure the alarms are in working order at the start of each new tenancy. See ‘Internet Links’ for further information.

If you think your home needs repairs, you should contact your landlord. If your landlord does not arrange for the repairs to be made please contact us. We can help you make sure that the work is carried out.
