Council Tax Refunds

If the account is paid by Direct Debit, then a refund will be issued using the details already (or previously if the Direct Debit has since been cancelled) in place on the account.

If the account is not paid by Direct Debit bank details will need to be provided to us with the agreement of all persons named on the Council Tax bill.

If an account is in the name of someone who has passed away a refund can be issues to the solicitor handling the estate if we have written proof of this. We can also issue a refund to an executor provided they are the sole executor, and we have this in writing. If there is more than one executor, all will need to provide authorisation before a refund can be issued.

Likewise, if an account holder has their affairs dealt with by someone holding power of attorney, then the person who holds power of attorney can receive the refund.

If there is any dispute as to who made payments against an account, then proof is required. This must be in the form of bank statements and/or payment receipts for the payments in question.
