Meadowbank Community Football Facilities

We have owned the Meadowbank community football facilities in Dorking since they opened in summer 2018, following a comprehensive regeneration of the site.

Since that time, Surrey County Football Association (SFA) have been leaseholder of the football facilities and manage the site’s use by community sports clubs and groups, while Dorking Wanderers Football Club (DWFC) play their home matches at the stadium.

We have this year (2026) been approached by DWFC and SFA with a joint proposal to explore the opportunity for a new leasing arrangement at Meadowbank Stadium. For more details about the proposal, visit DWFC’s website.

Should we have legal assurance that the existing community use of the site would be maintained, next steps would see the proposal firstly considered by councillors at a Cabinet meeting, and then by the East Surrey Shadow Authority.

Please find below information setting out our position as landowner:

MVDC is aware that DWFC and SFA have developed a joint proposal for DWFC to take on the leasehold of the Meadowbank Stadium, with a view to brining it forward for MVDC consideration. We cannot comment on these proposals directly until they are brough forward for consideration but MVDC can confirm:

  • MVDC will not consider a sale of the freehold
  • The importance of the stadium to the local community, particularly to grass roots football clubs is recognised by MVDC and MVDC will protect these interests through any new legal/lease agreements.
  • The decision-making process would also need to involve East Shadow Authority approval as part of Local Government Reorganisation
  • There are no plans to expand the size of the stadium

Please contact DWFC and/or SFA directly on Info@dorkingwanderers.com or Meadowbank@SurreyFA.com.

Alternatively, DWFC have published some FAQs on their website.
