Taxi Fare Review
Please submit any objections you may have to the proposed maximum fare increase of 10%, as agreed with the Hackney Carriage Consultative Group, by 5pm on 21 December 2018.
The maximum fare increase of 10% was agreed with the Hackney Carriage Consultative Group, which comprises off representatives of the local taxi trade and district councillors, on 10 October 2018. The proposed increase followed requests by members of the hackney carriage trade for an increase to the maximum fare to reflect the rise in vehicle operational costs seen in recent years. MVDC had frozen the district's maximum taxi tariff since May 2014 and the new proposed 10% increase is set at less than the 12.5% Retail Price Index (RPI) rise during the same five year period.
Having considered that there were a range of views from the taxi trade on the merits of the proposed increase, Mole Valley District Council's (MVDC) Cabinet agreed on 27 November 2018 to consult on the proposed maximum fare increase.
The maximum fare tariff was proposed to balance the rise in vehicle operational costs seen in recent years against the need to ensure Mole Valley's taxis remain a viable options for customers in a competitive private hire market.
If no objections are received, the fare increase will take effect immediately following the conclusion of the consultation period. If one of more objections are received, these will be reported to MVDC's Cabinet for consideration in February 2019. Having taken any objections into account, MVDC's Cabinet may then decide to proceed with the proposed fare increase or choose to amend it.
Should the proposed maximum fare increase come into force following this period of consultation, drivers who do not agree with the tariff can charge less than the meter reads, should it be pre-agreed with the customer ahead of a journey taking place.
The Public Notice outlining the terms of the proposed maximum fare increase is available to review below, in addition to details of how you can submit any objections you have to MVDC.
