As part of the government’s initiative to help households with rising energy costs, they have announced a £150 Energy Rebate for certain households from April. This page provides information about the energy rebate and will be updated as more information about the scheme becomes available.
Most householders in council tax band A to D properties will qualify for this rebate if you were the liable taxpayer on 1 April 2022. Some properties won’t be eligible, including second homes and empty properties. You can read the full eligibility criteria online.
The rebate will be in the form of a direct payment, rather than deducting it from your Council Tax bill for 2022 - 23. We will make this payment by the end of September 2022.
You must continue to pay your council tax bill as per the amounts and dates shown on your bill. If you are struggling to pay, please contact us.
If you pay by Direct Debit
The quickest and easiest way to receive this money is to set up a direct debit to pay your council tax. You can do this by calling our Council Tax team on 01306 879293. Please have your council tax reference number, starting with 60 and your bank account details to hand.
This means that we will be able, as long as you are eligible, to pay the money into your bank account when the time comes.
If you pay by other means
For qualifying households that do not already pay their council tax by direct debit, you will need to make a claim for the payment. We will contact you to tell you how to do this towards the end of May.
When will I get my payment?
We are expecting to be able to start making payments towards the end of May. Please note it may take several weeks for us to complete this work due to the necessary security checks we need to make.
Please do not contact us to chase this payment, we will be in touch with you.
What if I am not in a Band A to D Property?
If you are not in a band A to D property but still need help there will be some further funding available to help households who don’t qualify under the main scheme.
We will be implementing a Discretionary Scheme as soon as possible and once we have more information about this, we will publish the details on this page.
More information about the £150 Energy Rebate, as well as other ways the government is helping with rising energy costs, is available on the gov.uk website.
