Arts Alive and
'The Big Weekend'
Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July 2012
Application Deadline: Friday 30 March 2012
Arts Alive is delighted to be working with Dorking and Leatherhead Town Management Partnership and Mole Valley District Council to co-ordinate town centre Olympic celebrations and is looking for arts groups, performers and exhibitors to take part.
Mole Valley District Council is delighted to be a host authority for the London 2012 Olympic Games as the men’s and women’s Olympic Cycle Road Races pass through on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July respectively and the Olympic Torch Relay on Friday 20 July.
With thousands of people expected to attend, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for arts groups and individuals to showcase their work. We are particularly looking for artists who can help with our ambitions to create a carnival-style atmosphere in Dorking and Leatherhead town centres and keep the crowds entertained, for example performance artists such as jugglers, mime artists, and a variety of music and dance performances. We are also open to suggestions and ideas for street entertainment or other ways to get art involved in our Olympic celebrations.
If you or your arts group is interested in getting involved in the Olympic celebrations please complete the short application form and your ideas will be considered. If you have any questions about the events or need assistance completing either form please call 01306 879188.
The Big Weekend Application Form
Arts Alive 2012
1 - 31 October 2012
The committee has reconsidered their earlier decision to hold a shorter festival because of their involvement in The Big Weekend and has decided to run a month-long Arts Alive Festival throughout October 2012. Many committee members are busy with preparations for The Big Weekend so the festival is likely to be less ambitious than previous. More information about how to take part will be released in due course.
