A

Ackroyd & Harvey

Dorking-based artists Ackroyd & Harvey have collaborated and exhibited internally for over 20 years.  Their artwork makes explicit connections with urban political ecologies by highlighting the temporal nature of processes of growth and decay in sites of architectural and environmental interest.  In 2007 they realised their largest temporary artwork “Flytower” on the exterior of London’s National Theatre.  The are involved in the ‘Artists In Residence’ project.

Amanda Loomes

Amanda is a Dorking-based artist and works in a number of mediums including moving image, face painting and photography, Amanda considers her role as an artist and challenges ideas regarding work and usefulness.  She is involved in the ‘Artists In Residence’ project.

Anne Brodie

Anne Brodie’s current working practice originates from her biological science background and initial object based practice.  Anne was awarded the British Antarctic Survey/Arts Council England Fellowship to Antarctica in 2006/7.  Anne is a Dorking-based artist and is involved in the ‘Artists In Residence’ project.

Applalachian Clog Dancers

The Applalachian Clog Dancers meet every Wednesday at Charlwood Parish Hall and claim to be Charlwood's premier clog dance group!  Established in 2001, originally a small group enthusiastic to learn this powerful and energetic style of dance.

Bookham and Leatherhead U3A

The U3A is a unique and exciting self help educational movement for middle aged and older people no longer in full time employment which enables members to share many educational, creative and leisure activities.

Bloco Do Sul

Dorking band Bloco do Sul teach friendly Samba drumming and dance workshops, using Brasilian inspired percussion music. Learn dazzling dance and sizzling samba rhythms.

Capel Choral Society

Capel Choral Society is a friendly local mixed choir.  They rehearse on Monday evenings at 7.45pm in Capel Memorial Hall, near Dorking.

Chamber House Winds

Founded in 2005, Chamberhouse Winds is made up of established orchestral and chamber players as well as each being a solo artist in her/his own right.

Dorking Branch of the Embroiderers' Guild

The Embroiderers' Guild is the UK's leading craft association.  The Dorking group meet on the second Monday of every month at The Friends Meeting House.

Dorking Camera Club

Dorking Camera Club is a friendly photographic club for everyone who owns a camera. We enjoy talking about photography in a relaxed atmosphere where beginners and experienced photographers can share a common interest.

Dorking Camerata

The Dorking Camerata is a chamber choir of some 20 voices formed in 1997. Generally performing 3 concerts a year, the Camerata never loses sight of its founding principle; the sheer delight and pleasure of singing.

Dorking Chamber Orchestra

The Dorking Chamber Orchestra is a small chamber orchestra that was founded in 1988 and specializes in music from the 18th and 20th centuries.

Dorking Choral Society

Dorking Choral Society is a non-audition amateur choir of around 90 voices.  They rehearse on Wednesday evenings throughout the year.

Dorking Concertgoers Society

Over the 42 years of its existence, the society has promoted concerts by many famous musicians and orchestras.

Dorking Dramatic & Operatic Society

DDOS aims to promote live theatre in Dorking and has its own 85 seat Green Room Theatre (situated behind Dorking Halls).  They perform a wide variety of plays and musicals throughout the year.

Dorking Folk Club

Dorking Folk Club was formed in 1976, and for over 33 years has provided a local weekly venue where the very best traditional and acoustic musicians, small bands and singers can be supported and appreciated.  Guest artists regularly visit but the Club also provides opportunity and encouragement for local musicians and singers to perform in a more informal way in a relaxed, friendly environment - or just come along and listen any Wednesday night.

Dorking Group of Artists

The Dorking Group of Artists is a thriving non-profit making art society with over 200 members from the local community and surrounding areas.

Dorking Halls

Dorking Halls brings the latest films and live entertainment to the centre of Dorking.

Dorking Philharmonia

Founded in 1999, Dorking Philharmonia is an ensemble of enthusiastic amateur musicians from around Surrey, London and Sussex who perform a diverse repertoire of classical music.

Dorking Quaker Group

The Dorking Quaker Group organised a number of popular arts activities during the 2008 festival and is planning an exhibition of children's art work during 2009.

East Surrey Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers

The East Surrey Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers is a society for all who are interested in textile crafts.  They are organising 'Fibres are Fun' - a display of members work and demonstrations of all the various crafts involved.  Visitors of all ages will be able to have a go at braiding, beading, spinning, weaving, silk paper making and card making.

Fire and Iron Gallery

The Fire and Iron Gallery is known across the world as the place to see and buy the very best metal work by leading international artist blacksmiths.

Friends of Surrey Performing Arts Library

The Friends of Surrey Performing Arts Library provides on-going support, moral, material and financial, to the Surrey Peforming Arts Library.

Freewheelers Theatre Company

The Freewheelers Theatre Company brings disabled and non-disabled actors and supporters, production teams and the local community together.  They use theatre and dance, wheelchair and voicebox technology, multimedia, animations, puppets and shadows to create innovative work.  The company currently has fifteen members, an artistic director, an administrator/fundraiser, a dance teacher, a volunteer video editor, a volunteer filmmaker, and a media trainer.

 

G

The Gentle Gallery

The Gentle Gallery in Dorking will be exhibiting work by local artists including Bridget Moore, Susie West and Edward Nowak.

Gillian Harris

Gillian is a local felt-maker and has recently opened the 'Fluff-a-torium' shop in Dorking where she sells her felt-making kits, wools and other fluffy things.

Goldenford Publishers

Goldenford aims to become the pre-eminent publisher of general fiction in the Guildford and West Surrey area by selecting a small number of high quality books for publication each year.  The focus is on novelists living in Surrey.  The Company is run by authors for authors and maintains close links with the Guildford Writers' Group.

Head 2 Head Theatre Company

Formed in April 2006 Head2Head offers inclusive and accessible theatre-in-education including shows, workshops and storytelling.

 

J

Jenny Desoutter

Jenny Desoutter is a Dorking-based photographer.  Jenny is organising an exhibition of her photographs at Dorking Library.

Lance Pierson

Lance Pierson is an actor who brings words to life.  He has created many humorous and moving entertainments, which could add a touch of class to your event.

Leatherhead Art Club

The Leatherhead Art Club has 60 members and welcomes everyone with a passion for art.

Leatherhead Choral Society

Leatherhead Choral Society is a mixed voice choir based in Leatherhead.  They were founded in 1928 and perform one to two major concerts a year.

The Leatherhead Theatre strives to offer the very best in arts and entertainment.

Leatherhead U3A

Leith Hill Musical Festival

The Leith Hill Musical Festival has been held annually in Dorking, Surrey since 1905 and has grown into one of the country's leading choral events.

Le Roc

LeRoc Jive, as seen on TV, is sweeping the country. It's a mixture of Dirty Dancing, Rock'n'Roll, Salsa, Blues, West Coast Swing, Latin, Strictly Come Dancing and French Jive. LeRoc jive classes are fun and friendly and there is no complicated footwork to master. LeRoc can be danced to almost any type of music. It's a dance for any occasion and it looks brilliant whether you are a complete beginner or an expert.

Loud & Proud Community Choir

The Loud & Proud Community Choir was established in April 2009.  They rehearse every Wednesday evening at St John's C of E Community Primary School, Dorking.

Meike Laurenson

Meike Laurenson is a local felt-maker.  She makes hand crafted items such as hats, waistcoats and scarves.

The Menuhin Hall

The Menuhin Hall is Mole Valley's newest concert hall and was opned in 2006 by HRH The Duke of Gloucester.

The Milestone Big Band

The Milestone Big Band is a stunning 12+ piece dance band.  This talented and experienced group of musical performers provide an interactive performance with a full big band sound ensuring that you will want to get up on the dance floor.

Mole Valley Poets

The Mole Valley Poets are a mutually supportive group of enthusiastic poets who are committed to taking poetry into the local community.

Mole Valley Scriptwriting Group

Mole Valley Scripwriting Group is dedicated to developing and encouraging the membership of both beginners and experienced writers to hone their skills and broaden their repertoire and to help them explore new fields and promote their work to possible markets.

Mole Valley Silverband

The Mole Valley Silver Band plays varied brass band music in and around the towns of Dorking and Leatherhead in the Mole Valley area of Surrey.

National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies

Flower arranging clubs and societies banded together as the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies in 1959.  With over 100,000 members, it ranks among the most notable specifialised National Associations.

The Nomad Theatre

The Nomad Theatre is a vibrant, active amateur theatre company based in East Horsley.  The Nomads put on around eight shows per year.

 

P

Pantastic

Pantastic is a steel pan group established in 1993 by Nicola Fairey.  Pantastic offers group tuition in steel pans to both children and adults.

Phoenix Creative Arts

Phoenix Creative Arts is a performing arts school with branches in Dorking, Horsham and East Grinstead.  They offer a wide variety of classes from age 3 upwards.

Phoenix Writers' Circle

The Phoenix Writers' Circle is an established, friendly writers group who meet on the last Wednesday of every month in Dorking.

Poptastic

Poptastic provides a fun, friendly and creative environment in which to learn dance for both chuildren and adults.

Portland Studios

Portland Studios is an open working studio of two artists based in Fetcham.  One artist, Mary English, is a ceramic sculptural artist and the second Martyn Perryman, is a landscape oil painter.

Q

Queen Elizabeth Foundation Centre

QEF works with people living with physical and learning disabilities or acquired brain injuries to gain new skills and increase independence.

 

R

Rampant Rooster Morris

Rampant Rooster were formed in July 1993 with the idea of creating a mixed Cotswold team with very few rules but with a lively and fun approach to dancing.

 

S

Shed Art

Shed Art are a group of modern artists who work together in a studio at Newdigate in Surrey. Their work is vibrant and eclectic.

Star Steppers

Star Steppers is a unique performing arts school for young people aged 3-18 years.  In a fun and safe environment young people are encouraged to develop their skills in dance, drama and singing as well as having their imaginations and creative minds nurtured.

St John's School Leatherhead
St Martins Church

St Martins Church in Dorking offers a programme of live music in their regular Thursday lunchtime concert series.

StopGAP Dance Company

StopGAP is a contemporary dance company consisting of dancers with and without disabilities.  A Regularly Funded Organisation (RFO) of Arts Council England, StopGAP is the UK's top integrated dance company working on the small-to-middle scale and leads this field across the world.

Surrey Barn Weavers

The Surrey Barn Weavers will be demonstrating their skills and organising an exhibition of their work.  There will also be an opportunity for participants to try out spinning and weaving at their studio in Newdigate.  Weaving and other textile work will be on sale.

Surrey Philharmonic Orchestra

The SPO began life as the Surrey String Players in 1932 and expanded to become the Surrey Philharmonic Orchestra in 1945.  Conducted by Jonathan Butcher, the SPO rehearses in Leatherhead on Friday evenings.

 

T

The Big Draw 2010

The Blue Academy of Performing Arts

The Blue Academy of Performing Arts offers a range of performing arts and theatre school classes, including singing, drama, dance and street dance for children from 4-16 years old and young adults, in and around Surrey.

The English Arts Chorale

The English Arts Chorale is an ambitious, auditioned choir of some 70 members based in Reigate, Surrey.  They rehearse on Mondays in Reigate.

The National Trust

The National Trust will be holding drawing workshops for 'The Big Draw' during Arts Alive on Box Hill and Headley Heath.

The Star

Enjoy traditional pub culture at its best in this arty, relaxed and intimate little pub in Dorking.

 

W

Watermill Jazz

The Watermill Jazz Club was founded in 1994 and since then has gone from strength to strength meeting on Thursday evenings every month of the year except December.

Well Versed Poetry Reading Group

Well Versed is a Poetry Reading Group and they meet in the staff restaurant at MVDC Council Offices, Pippbrook, Dorking on the second Monday of each month from 7.30pm to 10pm.
