Leatherhead Conservation Area Public Exhibition

and Consultation

The District Council is undertaking a consultation on a document with significant implications for the Leatherhead Conservation Area. The views of the public, especially those who live or work within the Leatherhead Conservation Area, are being requested.

The document in question is the Leatherhead Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan. The purpose of this document is to:

  • define in detail the special character of the area so that it can be better conserved and enhanced;
  • review the conservation area boundary to see if it should be adjusted
  • review planning controls to see if they should be extended to protect the area from damaging changes;
  • advise the Council on the future management of the special character of the area.

Work is being undertaken by independent specialists, Forum Heritage Services, and conservation staff at the District Council. Initial consultation work has already been undertaken and a draft appraisal and management plan produced for the second stage of consultation.

At this second stage a public exhibition of the main findings and draft proposals will be held in the Library at The Letherhead Institute, 67 High Street, Leatherhead on Saturday 16 th January between 10.00 am and 4.30 pm. You are very welcome to attend and speak to those involved in the Appraisal and Management Plan and to see how the comments provided as part of the first stage of consultation have been translated into the draft document.

Comments on the document can be made online up to Monday 8th February.

A hard copy of the document is also available to view in the Help Shop.

For those who cannot attend the exhibition, the display panels are available to download at the top of this page.

All comments will be considered carefully before finalising the Appraisal and Management Plan to be presented to the Council’s Executive for approval in March.
