Exercise on Referral
Exercise helps reduce the risk of many conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity and many more.
Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) has recently launched its new Exercise Referral Scheme, in an attempt to improve the health and wellbeing of all its residents. GPs, Practice Nurses, Community Nurses, Mental Health Professionals, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists will all have the ability to refer patients on to this scheme.
How to book a referral
Referrals can be made at either Leatherhead Leisure Centre or Dorking Sports Centre, where patients will receive 20 supervised sessions to be completed within a 12 week period. The initial, middle and final consultation sessions will be on a one-to-one basis with the Referral Instructor.
Are you eligible?
If you are aged over 16 and suffer from any of the many inclusion criteria including diabetes, high blood pressure/cholesterol, asthma, heart disease, arthritis, mental health conditions or are overweight or obese you are eligible to be referred. In order to tackle the increasing problem with childhood obesity, referrals for overweight children aged between 11 and 15 years old can be put on to Junior Gym schemes at either facility.
Cost of the scheme
The costs for this scheme are heavily subsidised by MVDC and the leisure operators. Each session can cost as low as £2.25 depending on which payment option is preferred. To encourage continued use after the course, excellent discounts for membership are available.
