We are fortunate to live and work in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Unfortunately some people still choose to litter, graffiti, fly tip or forget to pick up dog waste. We are launching a campaign to eradicate this anti-social behaviour.

DOG FOULING

THINK IT'S FINE?
"It is an offence to allow your dog to foul on public land and the maximum fine for failing to clear up after your dog is £1,000"

Not only is dog fouling against the law and anti-social but it can be a danger to public health. Responsible dog owners understand the importance of clearing up after their pets, so when you take your dog out for a walk, make sure you have a poop scoop or a suitable bag. You can then either dispose of the waste when you return home or use one of Mole Valley District Council bins, which can be found across the district. The law applies to all public footpaths, private roads, recreation grounds, open spaces, public car parks and pedestrianised areas in towns and villages.

LITTER

THINK IT'S FINE?
"Dropping litter in a public place is an offence and could cost you £80 or a court fine of up to £2,500"

Litter that ends up on the streets of Mole Valley makes it look untidy and dirty. It can also be dangerous for health and cause harm to animals. Food wrappers thrown out the window of cars, cigarette butts and chewing gum dropped on the street can encourage rats and foxes, which can create a health hazard for the district. Bins are provided throughout Mole Valley for waste and recycling to be disposed of correctly.

FLYTIPPING

THINK IT'S FINE?
"On average we collect 450 fly-tips a year which costs Mole Valley over £30,000"

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish and bulky items on land not licensed to receive it. It pollutes land and waterways, can be dangerous to health and costs money to remove, which could be spent better elsewhere. It is an offence to allow fly-tipping to take place, it can carry a very large fine and could lead to a prison sentence if prosecuted. Recycling centres are available in both Leatherhead and Dorking for you to legally dispose/recycle of unwanted items or Mole Valley District Council offer a bulky waste collection service.

GRAFFITI

THINK IT'S FINE?
"It is estimated that graffiti costs the UK over £1 billion per year to clean up?"

Graffiti doesn’t make Mole Valley more beautiful. It is illegal and a large amount of graffiti can increase peoples’ fears of crime and violence. Action can be taken against those caught defacing property. Mole Valley District Council's policy is to remove graffiti as soon as possible from all properties they own.
