Changes to Council Budget, Strategy and Annual Plan

On 24 September, Mole Valley District Council's (MVDC) Cabinet will consider a report on proposed revisions to its 2019/20 budget and 2019-24 strategy. The Annual Plan will be revised in line with this, and brought to Scrutiny on 9 October and Cabinet for approval on 22 October.

The new Administration is proposing that an additional £105k be allocated to the Council's revenue budget. This would enable progress to be made in relation to key objectives in the revised Strategy and Annual Plan.

Changes to the Annual Plan include a proposed drive to improve broadband capability across rural areas.

Other initiatives include the installation of infrastructure to support electric vehicle charging points and the deployment of mobile cameras to catch fly-tippers. There is also proposed work to support voluntary organisations in delivering holiday activities for children and young people.

Another change is the new Opportunity Dorking initiative, which would support Dorking's economy and promote it culturally. This would be funded separately, by the Regeneration Reserve.

There are two changes proposed to the Strategy. Following the declaration of a climate change emergency on 18 June, there is a proposed focus on moving MVDC and its contractors towards being carbon neutral. A carbon audit of the Council would be carried out, and a climate change strategy produced.

The second change is to look at where services currently provided by Surrey County Council might be devolved to MVDC to the benefit of Mole Valley's residents.

Councillor Stephen Cooksey, Leader of Mole Valley District Council, said: "We are keen to begin driving forward these new initiatives, as we focus on making Mole Valley a vibrant place to live, work in and enjoy. Our priorities are to foster community wellbeing, protect our environment while providing housing that meets local need, and support a vibrant local economy with thriving towns and villages."
