New Kingston Road Playground Opens in Leatherhead

The new pirate-themed playground at Kingston Road Recreation Ground was officially opened by the Chairman of Mole Valley District Council, Councillor Haque on Friday 17th August.

The winning playground design by Kompan, the play company behind the hugely popular Meadowbank Playground, was chosen following three public consultations held in 2017-2018. Work began on-site in early July and was officially opened 6 weeks later. The imaginative new playground has a range of fun and inclusive features, including: a pirates' Crow's Nest with slide, inclusive carousel, trampoline, zip wire, young explorers lookout tower, octopus see-saw and even its very own pirate's parrots.

Councillor David Hawksworth CBE, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: "The completed Kingston Road Playground is a wonderful example of how Mole Valley can work with communities to shape the creative, inclusive and exciting play facilities they wish to see. The new features of the refurbished pirate-themed playground provide children the opportunity to play, learn, imagine, and perhaps make new friends. We plan to continue to invest and promote recreation, leisure, and cultural facilities across the District to provide for residents of all ages, abilities, and interests."

To further celebrate this exciting new space, Mole Valley District Council will be supporting Surrey Police and B@titude to host a family fun event, 'Fun at Kingston "Wreck!"' on Thursday 30th August at the Kingston Road Recreation Ground. Bring a picnic and join us from 12-3pm to ride the tea cups, play games and take on our pirate treasure hunt. For more information see

At Kingston Road Recreation Ground the refurbished skate park designed by CANVAS will also soon be able to open. Work began in late July and is expected to complete in September.
