Kingston Road Playground & Skate Park
The pirate-themed playground by Kompan and skate-park from CANVAS are the latest play features to be built in Kingston Road Recreation Ground in Leatherhead this summer.
The winning playground design by Kompan, the play company behind the hugely popular Meadowbank Playground, was chosen through public consultation. The imaginative playground has a range of fun and inclusive features, including: a pirates' Crow's Nest with slide, inclusive carousel, trampoline, zip wire, young explorers lookout tower, octopus see-saw and even its very own pirate's parrots.
New Playground at Kingston Road Recreation Ground celebrated by hundreds
On 30th August hundreds of local families headed down to Kingston Road Recreation Ground, Leatherhead to take part in a fun-filled event jointly hosted by B@titudes, Surrey Police and Mole Valley District Council.
Attendees at this event played on the fairground train and the giant inflatable slide, took part in a pirate treasure hunt, were entertained by a balloon-modelling pirate, enjoyed a range of free activities including pirate crafts and face painting, and got the chance to meet their local emergency services.
PCSO Aimee Thomas of Surrey Police coordinated the chance for locals to meet the Police, Fire Service and St John's Ambulance. B@titudes, with funding from Toyota, were able to provide fairground rides and free ice creams to over 150 children. And with sponsorship through our Transform Leatherhead initiatives, we were pleased to add to the event a fantastic treasure hunt, entertainers, craft activities and face-painting.
Kingston Road Recreation Ground's newly refurbished skate park played host to a celebratory free event at the weekend, which saw a range of ages thrilled by the facility's ramps and rails on a skateboard, BMX or scooter. The supervised sessions, from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 13 October, were open to all abilities and led by experienced instructors from Team Rubicon.
Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) was delighted to welcome the support and expertise of UK Action Sports School, Team Rubicon, during the day's activities, which saw young people encouraged to try out the new facilities even if they had never ridden a skateboard, BMX or scooter before. The morning split into two sessions for beginners aged 10 and younger and 11 and older to enjoy. The afternoon began with intermediate sessions held for all ages from 1pm, and the well-attended event came to a close with a free-ride session, overseen by Team Rubicon's coaches.
