Kingston Road Playground & Skate Park

The pirate-themed playground by Kompan and skate-park from CANVAS are the latest play features to be built in Kingston Road Recreation Ground in Leatherhead this summer. The playground is opening soon and there will be a fun-filled family event on Thursday 30th August to celebrate the new playground.

Playground

The new pirate-themed playground at Kingston Road Recreation Ground was officially opened by the Chairman of Mole Valley District Council, Councillor Haq on Friday 17th August.

The winning playground design by Kompan, the play company behind the hugely popular Meadowbank Playground, was chosen through public consultation. The imaginative new playground has a range of fun and inclusive features, including: a pirates' Crow's Nest with slide, inclusive carousel, trampoline, zip wire, young explorers lookout tower, octopus see-saw and even its very own pirate's parrots.

Fun at Kingston 'Wreck' - Community Event 30th Aug

To further celebrate this exciting new space, Mole Valley District Council will be supporting Surrey Police and B@titude in hosting a family fun event on Thursday 30th August at the Kingston Road Recreation Ground.

Bring a picnic and join us from 12-3pm.

Look out for:

  • Fairground rides
  • St John's Ambulance
  • Surrey Police
  • Surrey Fire Engine
  • Have a go football with a coach
  • A Pirate Treasure Hunt with prizes
  • Pirate crafts
  • A balloon modelling pirate
  • Free face-painting
  • Ice cream

PCSO Aimee Thomas said "Having worked in the area for so long, I'm really pleased that myself and the Safer Neighbourhood Team working together with our partner agencies, have managed to deal with the ASB problems of the last year. The Public Space Protection Order and the new CCTV have made the Recreation ground a more enjoyable family friendly place to be. I want this to continue and I would love to see more of the local community attend the event because without their calls to police none of this would have happened. I feel very passionate about my community, hence why we have put "THE FUN BACK IN THE WRECK" (no pun intended) but that is the theme of the playground so all PIRATES and PIRATESSES put your parrots on and bring your treasure chests."

Councillor David Hawksworth CBE, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: "Mole Valley District Council is delighted to support B@titude and Surrey Police in hosting this family fun event celebrating the new playground at Kingston Road Recreation Ground. The pirate-themed playground was created by Kompan, the play company behind the hugely popular Meadowbank Playground, whose winning design was chosen by local residents. Visitors will be able to celebrate our imaginative theme with pirate-themed activities including a treasure hunt and pirate crafts.

"This event supports our aim to ensure the new playground will provide children the chance to play, learn and imagine. We plan to continue to invest and promote recreation, leisure, and cultural facilities across the District to provide for residents of all ages, abilities, and interests."

Skate Park Progress

The winning skate park design impressed existing users, MVDC and local residents with an exciting mix of traditional skate park features including a bowl section, grind rails, spine ramp and flat bank, and alternative play options like table tennis and table football. Work to create this modern and dynamic facility has also now begun.
