parkrun Coming to Mole Valley

Residents can look forward to putting their running shoes to good use at Denbies Wine Estate from the New Year. A planning application has been approved by Mole Valley District Council to create a separate parkrun car park at the wine estate.

Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) began its search for a suitable site to host the popular parkrun event in the district two years ago. parkrun is a free and inclusive run, jog or walk that takes place on Saturday mornings between 9-10am in over 400 locations across the country. Until Denbies came forward, no suitable site had been identified in Mole Valley. Each one of the MVDC-owned parks were too small to accommodate parkrun, which requires the 5km distance to be covered in one, two or three laps.

Prior to the planning application being approved this month, MVDC and Denbies had been working together to assess the various criteria required for a site to accommodate parkrun. Because the wine estate's established car park is used for various other events throughout the year, a planning application to create a separate parking area for the vehicles of parkrun participants had to be submitted. Work to create the separate car park will begin in the near future, with the first Mole Valley parkrun expected to take place in the New Year.

Jeannette Simpson, Denbies Chief Operating Officer, said: "Denbies are very pleased to host parkrun within the estate. It is a fantastic community event which we are delighted to be involved with".

Councillor Lucy Botting, Executive Member for Wellbeing said, "We offer a range of health and wellbeing opportunities in the district and we are delighted that parkrun can be added to the fantastic number of activities our residents can choose from. I would like to thank Denbies for coming forward and offering to host parkrun. It will be very popular I'm sure and have real health benefits for participants.
