There are some fantastic, fun Christmas events for residents and visitors of all ages to look forward to across Mole Valley, starting in Dorking in November.
Christmas Lights Switch On, Dorking
Friday 24 November, outside Dorking Halls from 4.15pm
This popular, annual Christmas event, organised by the Friends of Dorking and supported by Mole Valley District Council (MVDC), is always packed with an excited crowd counting down to light up Dorking for the Christmas period. Come and join us for the festive family fun.
There will be music, entertainment and lots of laughter from 4.15pm as the cast of Sleeping Beauty, this year's Dorking Hall's pantomime, warm the crowds with some of their very own Christmas cheer. Dorkers and Merlin, the Friends of Dorking and MVDC's mascots, will be on hand to help Councillor Simon Ling, MVDC's Chairman, switch on the town's beautiful, sparkling Christmas lights at around 5.15pm.
Gala Night, Dorking
Thursday 7 December, in the town centre from 6 - 8.30pm
MVDC, Dorking Chamber of Commerce and Dorking Town Partnership host a festive celebration of late-night shopping, entertainment and activities for residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy. Gala Night will see a section of the High Street - from Pump Corner to Oxfam - together with West Street, all pedestrianised. Take advantage of free parking in the town's car parks from 3pm and come in a bit earlier to enjoy the town's range of shops, cafes and restaurants - many of which will be decorated in homage to this year's theme, 'traditional Christmas'.
Dorking will boast live music from local bands, dancing, street entertainers, choirs and Christmas stalls aplenty from 6pm. Visitors can look forward to saying hello to friendly real reindeer, sponsored by Scott's of Dorking, and make their way to see a wonderful nativity scene in St Martin's Church. Father Christmas will also be making a special appearance from 6.15-7.15pm in South Street Gardens.
