May 2017

There is one particular subject under the spotlight this month, and that is elections. You will all be only too aware that coverage in recent weeks has been dominated by the news there will now be a General Election on 8th June. There has been talk of potential voter apathy but I would certainly urge you to get out and vote in June - your vote is important. If you previously registered to vote in this month's Surrey County Council (SCC) Elections then there is no need to do so again - you can vote in the General Election. But for any of you who have not registered but would still like to have your say in June - you have until Monday 22nd May to make that possible.

The 4th May SCC election provided you with the opportunity to help shape the County's political landscape, voting in six Mole Valley Wards.  In addition to the SCC election, election day offered Ashtead and Bookham residents the opportunity to vote in a Neighbourhood Planning Referendum.  To view the results, please visit the Elections section on our website.

MVDC officers are continuing their work with the British Heart Foundation and the Ambulance service to deliver potentially life-saving training and improve access to essential equipment across our district. We are very pleased with the uptake of the training to date, but it is vital that we reach a wider audience. We will continue to provide free training sessions and continue on our quest of helping to place life-saving equipment - in even more local communities. Information about the PAD nearest to you and the next available free training courses in your area can be found on our Heartstart page.

The next six months promises more exciting times ahead for children and young families as our investment in play provision in the district continues. We are committed to ensuring residents have opportunities to participate in play and wellbeing activities, which helps in the fight against childhood obesity. At the end of April, we were delighted to announce the winning skate park design as part of our project to refurbish the existing skate facilities at the Kingston Road Recreation Ground in Leatherhead. The winning design also included plans aimed to appeal to a wider audience to encourage even more people to come to the recreation ground. Later this month, preparation for the next playground refurbishment in Mole Valley kicks off - for the Forty Foot playground in Leatherhead. Watch this space - we need your help to chose the final design!
