Happy New Year everyone!Traditionally, the beginning of the year is the time when we make personal commitments and resolutions and, as Leader of the Council, I want to take this opportunity to reaffirm the commitments this Council has made to you, our residents as we strive to make Mole Valley a place where people want to live, work do business and spend their leisure time.
Over the coming year, Mole Valley District Council will continue to put three key principles at the heart of all our decision-making and service provision: Sustainability - that means aiming to meet the needs of the present without compromising future generations; Cost Effectiveness - giving residents the best deal when delivering and developing services and, finally, Openness and Accessibility which means ensuring that residents receive clear and timely information and have a voice in our decision making.
I expect all our staff and elected Members to apply these principles in their work to ensure we listen to our residents, deliver value for money and make the right choices for the future of Mole Valley.
Over the coming year, in common with all local authorities, we will have some particularly difficult choices to make and it is essential that we listen to you, our residents, when making those choices. So, I would like to encourage you all to make a personal resolution to get involved in the decision-making process and ensure that your views are heard. Please, respond to our consultations so that we know what you think and what is important to you. Contact your local District Councillors to raise any concerns you may have so that we can see what can be done to address them.
By speaking up, you really can help us make the right choices and achieve the best outcomes for our communities. If you have the time to get involved in local community groups or become part of the solution in other ways, then that is even better!
I look forward to hearing your views and serving you as best I can throughout 2017.
Best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Cllr Vivienne Michael
Leader of the Council
