Leaseholders

Leaseholders have got together and have formed the: "Mole Valley Leaseholders Association"

Leaseholders from all over the district came together at a successful meeting at Dorking Halls on 31 August last year where it was agreed that a leaseholder group should be established to ensure that you have a voice in the transfer process.

The Committee

The Chair is Don Eade from Dorking

Secretary: Alison Bird from Beare Green

The position of Vice Chair are currently vacant.  We are also looking to build up a good Leaseholders team to take part in shaping services for leaseholders.  For more information contact Linda.witherden@molevalley.gov.uk or Linda.tobitt@molevalley.gov.uk or ring 01306 870615

Aims of the Leaseholder Association

  • To discuss and resolve any issues that leaseholders have raised

Facts and Figures

  • Currently there are 350 leaseholders in the District
  • Management fees are £40 per year
  • The Council sold approximately 35 homes through the Right to Buy each year
  • The buildings insurance is currently held with St Pauls Travellers insurance company.
  • Mole Valley District Council holds the freehold

Membership

Membership of the Association is open to all Council leaseholders throughout the Mole Valley District.

The Housing Transfer Process and Leaseholders

Last July the Council decided to move ahead with the proposal to transfer the housing stock to a Housing Association. This proposal is subject to extensive consultation with tenants and leaseholders before a formal ballot with tenants takes place in Spring 2007. Mole Valley Leaseholders had a representative on the Housing Transfer Steering Group -  Pat Horgan (North Holmwood), who then went on to take part in selecting the preffered partner for the proposed Mole Valley Housing Association.

Earlier this year a Brian Creamer, a  leaseholder  from Leatherhead came forward to sit on the shadow board of the new Mole Valley Housing Association.

How will this affect me?
This means that the freehold of your property would be sold to a Housing Association. The new Landlord would carry out the management service including external decorations, communal repairs and organise the various services appropriate to your building.

How much will I pay?
The new landlord will only charge the actual costs of the services provided and will apportion costs in accordance with the terms of your lease.
