Postal and Proxy Voting
If you are unable to go to your polling station on election day, you can apply for either a postal or proxy vote.
When deciding whether an absent vote (postal or proxy) is the best option for your circumstances, please bear in mind that although the proxy vote deadline is after the postal vote deadline, should an appointed proxy wish to vote by post, the postal proxy vote application form needs to be received by the same deadline as a standard postal vote: 5pm on the 11th working day before the election. Proxies appointed after this time will need to vote in person at the polling station.
If you will be away from your local area due to unforeseen work reasons on election day or have a medical emergency after the closing date for a proxy application, you are able to apply for an emergency proxy which can be requested at any time up until 5pm on polling day. Postal votes are normally sent seven to 10 days before the election so, if you are going away, you should consider whether you will still be at home to receive your postal vote around this time.

When will my ballot papers be sent to me for 2 May elections?
We have two dispatches of postal ballot papers for the upcoming elections on 2 May 2019.
Those who had a postal vote in place by 19 March will receive their ballot papers from 12 April. Anyone who applied after 19 March will receive their ballot paper from 18 April. All postal ballot papers are dispatched via First Class post.
