The Environmental Health service can investigate certain complaints in relation to some types of artificial light pollution.
If the light is sufficiently severe as to materially interfere with the comfort and enjoyment of someone else's home, the investigating officer has the power to take formal action on the person responsible. Please note that it is not the intention that the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 be used to ensure a clear view of the night sky.
The types of light that can cause light pollution include:
- domestic security lights
- commercial security lights
- sports facilities
- domestic decorative lighting
- railway premises
- bus stations
- public service vehicle operating centres
- defence premises
- goods vehicle operating premises
To report light pollution, please call Environmental Health on 01306 885001 or email email@example.com.
