Air and Water Quality
Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) is required to review and assess air quality in the district while water quality is monitored by the Drinking Water Inspectorate.
airAlert is a free service for residents warning of pollution levels capable of affecting health.
Within Mole Valley the pollution levels are generally quite low. However, occasionally pollution reaches levels that are capable of causing short term health problems for people with respiratory problems.
airAlert sends a free text, e-mail or voicemail to warn twenty-four hours in advance of elevated pollution events enabling users to manage their condition more effectively.
If you would like to sign up for the service see the East Surrey airAlert website.
Air quality monitoring
MVDC routinely monitors air quality passively using nitrogen dioxide tubes placed at various locations throughout Mole Valley. The latest Air Quality report is available (see 'Downloads'). The report details the results of air quality monitoring undertaken across Mole Valley and is prepared in accordance with the guidance issue by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Drinking water quality
The public water supply has to meet stringent water quality standards set by Government regulations. Drinking water in Mole Valley is supplied by Sutton and East Surrey Water plc, Thames Water Utilities or in a very few cases by a private supply (eg. a spring, well or borehole). Routine sampling of such private water supplies takes place to check that the water is safe to drink.
