Clandon Wood Nature Reserve and Natural Burial Ground
As well as Dorking Cemetery, additional burial space for Mole Valley residents is provided at Clandon Wood Nature Reserve and Natural Burial Ground.
The site, which includes a 31 acre wildflower meadow, new native woodland, two lakes, wetland and a beautiful glass pavilion has been dedicated as space for burials and the burial of cremated remains.
In an agreement between Mole Valley District Council and Clandon Wood, an area of the reserve has been allocated for Mole Valley residents who wish to purchase a plot for the same costs as those at Dorking Cemetery. It is the first such agreement in England and will provide burial space for at least 75 years.
Clandon Wood officially opened in June 2013 and is now a leader in the field of sustainable nature burial; Natural Cemetery of the Year, Best Nature Reserve in Surrey and the Green Flag Award are among the six sustainability accolades that have been won in 2019.
Clandon Wood is also a professional member of the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management and aides by their Charter for the Bereaved.
It is recommended that residents wishing to use Clandon Wood should book a plot in advance - removing the stress for family members and guaranteeing the location of a final resting place for full burial or the burial of ashes.
