Further Information: This is the third part of Robert Jackson's series on Germany. It looks at the remnants of the extensive narrow-gauge railways that formerly existed in the states of Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Pomerania in the DDR. These constituted a disparate agglomeration of individual lines and networks of differing gauges and with individual rolling stock. As in Saxony, the few remaining (or restored) lines are now an integral part of the German heritage industry. The presentation will be based around visits made to Germany in 2013 and 2018.
