Start-up Loans

a government-funded scheme that provides loans and a business mentor for entrepreneurs aged over 18 seeking finance to start a business. Repayable within five years at a fixed rate of interest. The average loan is £6,000 based on a business plan. 

New Enterprise Allowance

provides money and support to over 18s receiving certain benefits to help start their own business. Contact Jobcentre Plus to apply for a loan to help with start-up costs and a weekly allowance paid over 26 weeks.

helps businesses to be more effective when approaching their bank or applying for grants.

Samuel Wilson Trust

offers loans to people aged over 18 and under 40 in Surrey who have, or are about to, set up in trade, manufacture, business or profession. Loans are up to £50,000. Log on to the Samuel Wilson Trust website and choose 'what we do', then 'trusts and charities'.

Fredericks Foundation

offers loans and support to people denied bank funding to start their own business/trading for 12 months or less. The maximum start-up loan is £10,000. 

Funding Circle

is an online peer group lending platform that allows individuals, from private investors to hedge funds, to lend to each other and to small businesses.
