Recycling Centres & Sites

There are two large community recycling centres (CRCs) in the district located at Randalls Road in Leatherhead and Ranmore Road in Dorking. These sites are owned by Surrey County Council (SCC) and managed by SITA Surrey. There are also numerous recycling points in the district for items such as textiles, cartons, card and paper.

Both sites will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Both centres accept a wide range of materials, including:

  • batteries, including car batteries
  • electrical waste/electronic equipment
  • fridges/freezers
  • large domestic appliances and household goods
  • wood and wooden furniture
  • garden waste

Items that are accepted at Leatherhead but not at Dorking include:

  • plasterboard
  • refillable gas bottles
  • tyres
  • rubble

Charges apply for waste from construction, alterations or repair of your home or garden, such as plasterboard, breeze blocks, bricks, rubble and soil. A charge will also apply for tyres from cars and motorbikes.

You can only pay by credit or debit card. Centre operatives reserve the right to refuse your waste and ask that you go to the Commercial Waste Transfer Station if they suspect that you are using the centre to dispose of commercial waste.

Locations of centres across the county and full details about what you can take there can be found by visiting SCC's 'Community Recycling Centres' web page.

For any enquiries or for information about specific materials, such as mercury or other hazardous waste to be disposed of at these sites, please contact the centre directly. For Randalls Road call 01372 375479 and for Ranmore Road call 01306 887471. Alternatively, you can contact SITA Surrey on 0208 3291030 for further information.

For a full list of the types of waste that will be charged for please see 'SCC's full list of the types of waste that will be charged for'. Certain restrictions apply with regard to the amount of waste that can be taken in to the site.

Resident ID and van permit schemes

You may be asked to prove you are a Surrey resident at some of our CRCs. This is because our CRCs are provided for and paid for by Surrey residents. By requesting identification we can ensure that only Surrey residents are using them for free.

If you drive a van, pick-up or pull a trailer you need to apply for a van permit to bring your vehicle to any CRC in Surrey. That way we can make sure the sites are only used for household and not commercial waste. You can apply for a permit by visiting SCC's 'Community Recycling Centres' web page.

Commercial trade waste

Commercial or trade waste can be disposed of at waste transfer stations in Mole Valley. These facilities have a weighbridge which is used to weigh vehicles bringing waste for disposal. They are managed by SCC.

If you have large quantities of construction waste or any quantity of asbestos waste, these should be taken to a waste transfer station. The transfer station in Mole Valley is located at Randalls Road, Leatherhead, adjacent to the tip. Further details can be found by following the 'Leatherhead Community Recycling Centre' link.
