Arts Alive 2018 Starts in Style

This year's Arts Alive Festival will officially kick off at fun-packed celebratory events in Leatherhead's Swan Centre on Saturday 15 September and Dorking's South Street Gardens and St Martin's Walk on Saturday 22 September.

The events will take place from 10am to 2pm, and will showcase a diverse range of talented local performers, including a virtuoso young violinist, a ballet dancer and local choirs. The line-up is continuing to grow, and acts will be announced on social media as they are confirmed.

There will also be a multi-talented street performer entertaining all ages with magic, balloons and puppets. Onlookers are encouraged to spot his many costume changes.

Face painters will also be on hand to transform young revellers.

The event is the perfect way to kick-start the popular festival, which is now in its 24th year. It features a jam-packed line-up of performances and activities taking place at venues across the district from September to December. There will be dance, drama, comedy, painting, pumpkin carving and much more.

The festival is organised by the Arts Alive Committee, a group of volunteers, councillors, and council officers who are passionate about the arts.

The organisers aim to make the festival as accessible as possible, so many events are free or affordable to attend.

Councillor David Hawksworth CBE, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: "This is the perfect way to let residents know that the festival has arrived and showcase the extraordinary range of activities in the arts available in the District. If you take a look at the brochure, I am sure you will find several dates to put into your diary. Do make the most of this opportunity!"

The festival brochure can be viewed at www.arts-alive.co.uk. It can also be picked up from Mole Valley District Council offices, Dorking Halls, and local shops, libraries and community centres in Mole Valley.

There will be a grand finale show at Dorking Halls on Friday 2 November showcasing many of the performers who took part in the festival. More details will be announced soon.
