Mole Valley Receives Highest Housing Recognition

Mole Valley District Council's Housing service has attained Gold Standard status from the National Practitioner Support Service for its ongoing work to prevent homelessness, becoming one of only sixteen local authorities nationwide to have received this prestigious award.

The National Practitioner Support Service (NPSS) provides advice and support to help local authorities deliver more efficient and effective homelessness prevention services. Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) first participated in the NPSS's accreditation programme in 2015, aspiring to be even better prepared to help those in the District who unfortunately become homeless.
In February 2016, MVDC became the first local authority in Surrey to be awarded Bronze status as part of a national programme assessing council services for preventing homelessness. In November of the same year, MVDC's continued progression in its working practises saw it receive the Silver Standard status from NPSS. Having now successfully joined only 15 other local authorities in the country to have achieved Gold Standard, MVDC is committed to improving its homelessness service even further.

Tracy Hendren, Managing Director of NPSS, said: "The National Practitioner Support Service is delighted that MVDC has achieved Gold status in the Gold Standard Programme for their achievements in preventing and tackling homelessness. MVDC's local challenge applications demonstrate their commitment to homelessness prevention and there is a clear, customer-focused, link between their strategic approach and their front-line service delivery."

Councillor Chris Hunt, Cabinet Member for Planning Services and Housing, said: "We are so very proud to have achieved the highest level of recognition from the National Practitioner Support Service for our ongoing work to prevent homelessness. Offering support to the some of the most vulnerable residents in Mole Valley is one of our key priorities and we will continue to prevent homelessness whenever we can and offer a range of housing options including temporary accommodation, supported housing, shared ownership homes and private rented and permanent housing association accommodation.

"The accreditation process has presented us with the most valuable opportunity to gain additional knowledge and improve our procedures, practice and customer service. Having achieved Gold Standard, it will only help us to continue improving on the service offered to those people who need our help and implementing the recently enacted Homelessness Reduction Act."
