Theme Announced as Excitement Builds Ahead of HOD 2018 Registration
In the wake of International Women's Day on 8th March 2018, registration for this year's Heritage Open Days 2018 - appropriately themed 'Extraordinary Women' - opens later in the month.Heritage Open Days is a national celebration held annually, with the number of events and visitors to the festival in Mole Valley growing year on year. The opportunity to visit buildings not normally open to the public, participate in guided walks, listen to talks, visit exhibitions and explore the often little-known history and heritage of the District should not be missed.
Residents, businesses and organisations in Mole Valley eager to take part in England's largest festival of history and culture, this year taking place between 13 and 16 September, are being encouraged to come forward with ideas for events. Local historians have already identified a surprisingly diverse range of extraordinary women who have close associations with Mole Valley. They include novelists such as Fanny Burney and Jane Austen; social reformers such as Emmeline Pankhurst, the Pethick Lawrences, and Marie Stopes; and society women such as Mrs Greville of Polesden Lacey and Duchess of Marlborough at Deepdene House.
Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) is very eager to hear about the many other maybe lesser-known, but equally fascinating, examples of extraordinary women in the District that could feature in the four day celebration of Heritage Open Days. If you have any ideas or interested in taking part this year and registering an event, please email email@example.com. For more information about the festival, please visit www.heritageopendays.org.uk.
Councillor Corinna Osborne-Patterson, MVDC's Executive Member for Communities, Services & Housing, said: "The Heritage Open Days always provides such an exciting opportunity to get involved and contribute towards providing a truly fascinating cultural festival for visitors in the autumn. If you are at all interested, I would urge you to get in touch with us so that we can guide you through registration."
