24th November - Come and Celebrate the Christmas Lights Switch On in Dorking!

Come and join us for some festive family fun outside Dorking Halls on the 24th November from 4.15pm. This popular, annual Christmas event organised by the Friends of Dorking and supported by Mole Valley District Council is always packed with an excited crowd counting down to light up Dorking for the Christmas period - so why not come and join in?

From 4.15pm there will be music, entertainment and lots of laughter as the cast of Sleeping Beauty, this year's Dorking Hall's' pantomime, warm the crowds with some of their very own Christmas cheer. Chairman of Mole Valley District Council, Councillor Simon Ling will perform the switch on at around 5.15pm, filling the town with its beautiful, sparkling Christmas lights.

Dorkers and Merlin, the Friends of Dorking and Mole Valley District Councils mascots will be on hand to help with the lights, jokes or just pose for some fun family photos. Attendees to this event increase every year as local people enjoy gathering together for the beginning of the district's festive celebrations.

Councillor Simon Ling said, "We are delighted that this year the switch-on event is at this end of town. Our traditional venue of St Martin's Shopping Centre is going through improvement works so it is the perfect excuse to bring the crowds this way. Every year is well attended and lots of fun so wrap up warm and come and join us!

"This event marks the lead up to Christmas and our free Christmas parking offer is back on in all MVDC-owned car parks across the district from 12pm on Saturdays 2, 9 and 16 December. These dates are perfect for local Christmas shopping, so take the opportunity to spend locally and take advantage of the wide array of wonderful shops, restaurants and cafes in Mole Valley."

Gala Night follows closely behind on Thursday 7 December, when from 6.00pm - 8.30pm the High Street will be pedestrianised for Dorking's Christmas shopping extravaganza evening, more details on www.molevalley.gov.uk/christmas.
