Parking Strategy

The car parking service is working in line with Mole Valley District Council (MVDC)'s Car Parking Strategy (see 'Downloads'). This is based around four strategic objectives, which follow MVDC's priorities.

The priorities are:

  • listening to residents and our communities to understand their views on council car park provision
  • helping residents to access the car parking services they need
  • protecting the environment and character of Mole Valley through the appropriate provision and design of car parks
  • delivering value for money to all local tax payers from the council's car park assets

Use of Parking Income

The most visible part of the parking service are the civil enforcement officers who ensure that parking regulations are being adhered to and issuing Penalty Charge Notices, where necessary.

Different rules apply to on street and off street parking. Surplus money received from on street parking must be used to support traffic management and highways infrastructure. MVDC has not made a surplus on it's on street enforcement since it became responsible for enforcing on street parking in 2005. Money from MVDC's car parks is used to support any of its services, and the income supports MVDC's overall budget.
