What is the Future High Streets Fund?

Announced in the Autumn Budget, with details given on 26th December, in 2018, the £675m fund is from Central Government to provide co funding towards capital projects that bring about transformative change and will help local high streets adapt to create vibrant town centres where people live, shop, use services and spend their leisure time.

More information on how the Fund will work can be found online here:

How might the Fund benefit Leatherhead?

As the aims of the Fund so closely align with the Transform Leatherhead Masterplan we can make a strong bid for funding supported by evidence of the challenges Leatherhead faces and our vision to address them.

We have a range of deliverable projects for the Town Centre, in particular the Swan Centre and the High Street. These all involve:

  • physical infrastructure
  • public realm
  • transport
  • change of use
  • adaptation of the High Street

Exactly what the fund is looking for.

However, the Fund is National so we will be in competition with areas facing the greatest challenges and it is anticipated to be over-subscribed.
